Lantana Lodge is an old desert motel, built in 1947 and was cutting edge architecture at the time. Flat roofs with large overhangs, stone planters and ribbon windows, and metal casement windows, surround the pool/courtyard on three sides and contribute to the much sought after Mid-Century design of the property, which is in the style of architect Herbert Burns.
In the 1960's it was turned into condos, and the apartments were sold to individual owners. The property, at 314 East Stevens Road in central Palm Springs, is not on a through street and therefore hard to find. This area of Palm Springs is surrounded by some of the most expensive residential areas in the Coachella Valley. To the west and a bit south is the North Palm Canyon Design District along Palm Canyon Drive, with it's wonderful Mid-Century shopping and restaurants.
Lantana Lodge is a Jewel in the Desert rich in history. Located in the historic movie colony of Palm Springs the Lodge was built and opened in 1947. For several years it served as a Palm Springs hideaway for those looking for a sun-filled easy vacation getaway. Located close to town and within walking distance of larger homes of several famous movie stars. It is thought to have been used as a sort of overflow station for friends and relatives of those stars and famous characters of the late 40s and early 50s.
